2025 Updates to the Vision Screening Protocol©

The 2025 release of the Vision Screening Protocol© significantly enhances the precision, effectiveness, and ease-of-use of our tools. These updates provide more specific guidance for caregivers, greatly enhance the experience for both caregivers and vision screening professionals, and improve overall screening outcomes.

Protocol

The updated protocol covers the full screening process, starting with initial caregiver engagement to gather important information about their child. It concludes with a structured conversation between the caregiver and the screening professional about the vision screening results and the recommended next steps.

• Platform Update: The questionnaire is now hosted on a HIPAA-compliant, cloud-based platform that streamlines the administration and enhances the caregiver experience.
  
• Content Adjustments: Minor yet important adjustments have been made to the questions and instructions to improve clarity and relevance.
• Multilingual Availability: Continues to be available in both English and Spanish to serve a diverse population.
• Feedback System: After completing the questionnaire, caregivers receive an email with a PDF of their responses, along with additional information and tailored recommendations to support their child's vision health.
  

Scoring Guidance©

• Detailed Recommendations: Provides expanded details and specific recommendations for each type of vision concern identified during screening.
  
• Risk Categorization: Concerns are now categorized as risk factor only, non-urgent concern, urgent concern, or very urgent concern, enabling targeted follow-up actions.
• Supportive Media: Additional pictures and videos are included to aid screening professionals in accurately evaluating a child’s vision.

Scoring Rubric©

The rubric now specifies the timeframes for follow-up actions based on the significance of the concern, ranging from 4-5 weeks, if possible, to 1-2 weeks, to 24-48 hours.

Results & Recommended Next Steps for Caregivers©

• Documentation for Caregivers: Results are now efficiently documented and shared with caregivers using CognitoForms, in both English and Spanish.
