As a volunteer-led nonprofit, our board ensures our activities and resources focus on A Shared Vision’s mission and goals. The board provides strategic guidance, financial oversight, and leadership for our teams in serving families.

Mission

Our mission is to educate, inspire, and empower families to nurture the development of their very young children who are blind or visually impaired so that all children may discover their brightest future

Goals

Our goal is that all families of children with visual impairments have access to and receive essential early intervention services from a community of highly skilled and collaborative professionals.

Board Responsibilities and Duties

• Governance: Oversee and evaluate A Shared Vision’s operations and ensure legal and ethical integrity.
• Strategic Planning: Participate in developing A Shared Vision’s strategic plan and ensuring effective implementation of strategies.
• Financial Management: Oversee financial planning, approve annual budgets, and ensure adequate financial resources and transparency.
  
• Fundraising: Engage as each members’ interests and time allows in fundraising activities.
• Advocacy and Ambassadorship: Represent A Shared Vision to stakeholders and the broader community. Promote the organization’s reputation and credibility.
• Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor organizational performance and evaluate impact against goals and objectives.
• Board Meetings: Attend and participate in regular board meetings, typically held quarterly.
• Committee Involvement: Serve on committees and undertake special assignments as needed and as time permits.
  

Board Member Qualifications

• Expertise: Each board member is asked to bring their unique skills, experiences, and passions to benefit the mission of A Shared Vision.
  
• Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate and make decisions as part of the team.
  
• Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Integrity and Ethics: High ethical standards and personal integrity.

 Time and Financial Commitment

• The board meets six times a year, typically every other month. Board meetings are two hours in duration with the exception of one half day annual meeting.
  
• A Shared Vision does not ask board members to contribute financially. However, gifts of any size demonstrate to granting organizations our board members’ commitment to A Shared Vision.
  
• The term length for board members is two years as this provides enough time for board members to contribute effectively while still allowing for regular turnover and fresh perspectives. Board members may serve up to three consecutive terms. At that point board members are required to step down for at least one term before becoming eligible to serve again.
