Sally works full time as a Teacher of Children with Visual Impairments and an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the Boulder Valley School District. Prior to that she worked at the St. Vrain Valley School District for 10 years. “I had the honor of working with the daughter of one of A Shared Vision’s co-founders, Paula Landry. Her daughter is visually impaired, “explains Sally. “After our O & M lessons, Paula and I would chat about her little ones from A Shared Vision. It was always fun to hear how she supported her families.”
Inspired by Paula’s stories, Sally joined A Shared Vision as an Early Intervention Teacher of the Visually Impaired in 2018. In 2021 she received her Perkins-Roman CVI Range Endorsement after completing specialized training that qualifies her to evaluate children with cortical visual impairment and provide the families with beneficial strategies.
Sally especially enjoys teaching Orientation & Mobility. She began her O & M career working with adults who had lost their vision. Now her favorite part about O&M is “seeing a child make a connection with the long cane. I am always in awe of the freedom and independence the cane provides,” says Sally. She loves to teach O & M skills on the ski slopes, where she volunteers with groups of students who are visually impaired. She has worked with skiers at the Adaptive Sports Center in Crested Butte, the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center and Ignite Adaptive Sports at Eldora.
