How does a very young child who’s blind or visually impaired
experience a birthday party?

“Birthday” is just a word with disconnected sounds and letters until something gives it meaning.

For a child who is blind or visually impaired, hands-on tactile experiences with the sensory components of a birthday bring meaning to these words and turn a concept into reality. Talking about a party helps a child who’s visually impaired prepare for the excitement, smells, sounds and textures of the event.

Our Birthday Experience Kit has the sensory components of a birthday party. Wrapping paper, tissue paper, curling ribbon, a noisemaker, confetti, and birthday candles. We even include our favorite vanilla cupcake recipe which you can make in a six-tin pan, which looks like a braille cell!
