Samantha Thuis, EI-TVI and Board Member
Samantha joined A Shared Vision as an Early Intervention Teacher of the Visually Impaired in 2023. In 2024, Sam became a board member. She also serves as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments and an Orientation & Mobility Specialist in the St. Vrain Valley School District. She currently supports A Shared Vision families in Fort Collins and other parts of Colorado.
Samantha became interested in joining A Shared Vision because she could begin working with families from the time their child is diagnosed with a visual impairment. “I love being an educator and an advocate for individuals with visual impairments and their families,” explains Samantha. Little ones are her favorite age to work with because she’s a child at heart, too. “I love to be playful, curious, and silly just like they do. I also love that I’m able to work closely with parents and family members because we get into some wonderful conversations. I learn so much from all of it!” She especially enjoys teaching orientation & mobility because it’s one way a child with blindness or a visual impairment can learn self-esteem and independence. She also gets to share her joy of movement. While studying health and exercise science as an undergraduate student at Colorado State University, she taught fitness classes and was a professional dancer for the Colorado Eagles ice hockey team. “I LOVE to dance! I will learn any kind of dance and take classes when I have time,” said Samantha. She also enjoys hiking and walking her two dogs. |
