Vision Screening Training

Updated July 2022

EI Evaluation Quick Start Guide

A Note for EI Evaluators

In July, with input from over 300 professionals, EI Colorado and A Shared Vision updated the vision screening protocol for ages birth to three. Per the Early Intervention (EI) Colorado  Evaluation Provider Process Manual, "The Vision Screening Parent Questionnaire [2022] is the official approved vision screening tool for Early Intervention Evaluations."

We also created new trainings to support our colleagues who will be conducting vision screenings as part of the EI Evaluation process. One of the three training modules is the "Vision Screening Parent Questionnaire 2022." It is available as a 45-minute refresher for those that successfully completed the trainings in 2020-2021. Or, a 90-minute version for anyone new to the process. The second module is the "Vision Screening & Developmental Assessment." These trainings are available for registration below. A third module, "Objective Testing," will be available in the spring 2023. This will be provided in person in your community.

Per EI Colorado, "Evaluators must complete the training and pass the follow-up test in order to be approved to use the tool." All three modules are required. The follow-up test is available after you attend the Parent Questionnaire refresher or full training. A passing score of 75% or higher connotes successful completion.

Upon successful completion, attendees will receive a certificate of completion from EI Colorado and A Shared Vision, including clock hour credit.
"This was one of the most outstanding, timely, and applicable trainings that I have had and I've been doing this for 16 years! I walked away with something that I can do starting immediately that can directly and permanently impact families of young children as well as address a dire need in the community as showed by the research."
Mara Kuczun, Bilingual Early Childhood Special Educator
A Shared Vision presented a clear, concise training on Vision Screening for Birth to Age 3. I appreciated that they put together great handouts, practice examples, and very clear directions on moving through the process from sending the form to the family to scoring. I feel better prepared to tackle my next evaluation, equipped with a great tool and resources. Thank you! Wish I had this years ago!
